AGGRESSIVE management of familial hypercholesterolaemia could extend life expectancy by up to 30 years, according to the coauthor of Australia's first management guidelines being developed.

Cardiologist Professor Ian Hamilton-Craig, of Bond University inQueensland, said intensive case-finding and treating patients as young as possible would be among the key messages in the guidelines by the Australian Atherosclerosis Society.
