EDITOR Nice editorial by Dr Kerri Parnell about skin cancer clinics, but she did not get past the epidermis.
The real issue is that the clinics are sending a message that skin screening is recommended. Skin screening is not a recommended activity - see the RACGP's Red Book . The recommendation is to show your doctor spots that change. Routine checking is for those with previous melanoma, or multiple epitheliomata, or significant family history. People are going in droves to skin clinics because they believe routine skin checks are recommended.
