NEJM A drug that helps people lose weight by blocking pleasure centres in the brain also significantly improves metabolic risk factors in overweight people at increased risk of cardiovascular disease, a study shows.
The selective cannabinoid-1 receptor blocker, rimonabant, significantly reduced body weight, waist circumference and various other risk factors in overweight patients with dyslipidaemia, according to a randomised controlled trial reported in the New England Journal of Medicine (17 November).
