A FORMER horse breaker and now solo GP has won the inaugural Rural Doctor of the Year title.

Dr Tony Lian-Lloyd, who works in the small community of Quorn in the Flinders Ranges in SA, was bestowed the honour by the RDAA.

A former jackeroo, truck driver, horse breaker and anatomy technician at the Adelaide University medical school, Dr Lian-Lloyd enrolled as a medical student at Flinders University at the age of 25.

He has provided obstetric, surgery and anaesthetic services at Quorn Hospital.
