IMGs failing fellowship.

PASS rates for the RACGP fellowship exam have slumped in the past six years, a trend largely due to an influx of international medical graduates (IMGs) failing to attain the 'gold standard' of general practice.

Overall, the percentage of candidates who passed either the written exam or the practice-based assessment fell by 20 percentage points (from 85% to 65%) between 1999 and 2004.

The figures, based on analysis in Australian Family Physician (November), also revealed a large discrepancy between the performance of Australian-trained doctors and IMGs. ...
