IT seems cruel and ungrateful - our spring flowering plants have just done their duty and we start pruning them. But we have to be cruel to be kind if we want good displays next spring.

Most spring flowering shrubs produce their special display at the end of winter and this can be exhausting. There is a whole range of viburnums that flower profusely: V opulus Roseum with greeny-white balls of blossom, V carlesii with clusters of bright-pink buds that open white, and V plicatum with snowy-white, flattened umbels.
