AS a university student in Liverpool in England's north, I lodged in Huskisson Street near the Anglican cathedral, in the cemetery of which was the grave of William Huskisson. Within a stone's throw of the university was Crown Street, terminus of the new Liverpool and Manchester Railway. And it was from this terminus, when it opened on 15 September 1830, that the train that knocked down and killed the same William Huskisson began its fateful journey.
