PREGNANT women who follow a low-cholesterol diet can dramatically reduce their risk of preterm delivery, a study suggests.
Researchers found a 90% reduction in preterm deliveries among healthy women on a low-cholesterol diet compared with those on a normal diet.
The intervention diet substituted fatty fish, vegetable oils, nuts and nut butters for meat, butter, cream and fatty dairy products. Fruit, vegetables and wholegrain consumption was encouraged.
