EDITOR RACGP vice-president Dr Chris Mitchell is quoted in the article 'College fears general practice fragmentation'(Australian Doctor , 2 February) as saying he would like rebates for skin cancer clinics reduced to 75% of the current remuneration for general practice so these clinics would die out.

Dr Mitchell needs to understand that the problem is with general practice, not sub-specialty clinics. General practice has available to it health care plans, Practice Incentive Program payments, nursing assistance item numbers, etc, to improve GPs''holistic care' ...
