National summit to tackle GP safety.

A NATIONAL summit on protecting GPs and practice staff from patient violence will be launched next month.

The summit comes in the wake of the killing of Dr Khulod Maarouf-Hassan, who was allegedly stabbed to death by a patient at her practice in Melbourne last year. Her death sent shockwaves through the profession.

The summit -- called Your Safety is in Your Hands -- will bring together GP leaders, police and experts on violence and safety. Dr Maarouf-Hassan's sister-in-law Ms May Hassan will give the opening speech.
