LANCET A causal link between macrolide antibiotics and the emergence of macrolide resistance has been established for the first time in a randomised controlled trial.
Researchers said previous studies had found an association between antibiotic use and resistance, but the work had been confounded by several variables making it impossible to show a causal relationship.
