MELBOURNE GP Dr Grant Blashki believes GPs are in a unique position to spread the word on climate change.

"Climate change is indeed a health issue -- whether we are talking about the impact of drought on the wellbeing of communities, or the predicted alterations in the patterns of vector-borne diseases," Dr Blashki said.

"As GPs we are experts at communicating scientific information in a way that the community understands, and in this way we can play an important leadership role."
