A Snowy resort mixes luxury with the call of the wild.

MINUTES after arriving at Lake Crackenback we coin a new name for the Snowy Mountains resort --Lake Quackenback-- in honour of the ducks that make the lake their home.

The Novotel resort is our base camp for a two-day trek taking in Mount Stilwell and Kosciuszko peak, one of several treks hosted by the resort.

After a good night's sleep and fuelled by the hearty breakfast included in our stay, we arrive for our pre-trek briefing under ominous skies holding the promise of rain.
