ONCE-weekly risedronate and alendronate both reduce osteoporotic fractures in postmenopausal women but risedronate provides significantly greater protection, research suggests.
The head-to-head study of bisphosphonates risedronate (Actonel) and alendronate (Fosamax) included more than 33,000 women aged 65 and over and showed patients newly prescribed risedronate were more than 40% less likely to have a hip fracture at six and 12 months than those taking alendronate.
