OLDER MIGRANTS FACE PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS

People who are older than 50 when they migrate to Australia often experience significant psychological problems, new research has shown. Average scores on the 12-item General Health Questionnaire deteriorated in the first year in their new country. Those who had less secure visas and were from more turbulent countries of origin had greater problems (Journal of Affective Disorders 2007; 98:99-108).
