For the young doctors working in a remote Aboriginal community in the Kimberley, the experience has been career-changing.
WORKING in remote Aboriginal Australia left Dr Minh Phan so emotionally shattered that he quit medicine, took six months out to dance tango in Buenos Aires and then settled on a new career as an artist.
The healing forces of time, combined with frank advice from a fellow artist who cleans toilets for a living, encouraged him back into part-time general practice, but he is still affected by his time in remote WA (see box, below).
