GPS' ROLE MAY EXPAND

UK A top government advisor in the UK wants GPs to take on more responsibilities, including minor operations and postoperative follow-up appointments, the Healthcare Today magazine web site reports.

Dr David Colin-Thorne wants GPs to host outpatient clinics and carry out procedures including hernia and cataract operations.

While there would be no associated pay increases, UK GPs aren't about to hit the poverty line, with average salaries up to about $A300,000.
