Closing a practice does not mean the end of responsibility for patient medical records.

TALES abound of GPs who have closed their practices without warning, with anecdotal evidence of notes left on the surgery door advising bewildered patients how to retrieve their medical records.

In other cases the records have simply been dumped with a local business or another doctor.
