RESEARCH suggesting avoidable hospital admissions are far more common in remote and disadvantaged areas has sparked a renewed call to look at different funding models for general practice.
About 500,000 - or 9% - of all hospitalisations were avoidable, with the rate highest in more remote areas and those with lower socioeconomic status, according to an Australian Institute of Health and Welfare report.
