INDEMNITY COST DROPS FOR MOST DOCTORS

AVERAGE medical indemnity premiums fell for the third consecutive year in 2005/06, to $5537, a Federal Government report has found.

Premiums fell or remained steady across most specialties, including general practice, but rose for obstetricians, gynaecologists and most surgeons, the medical indemnity monitoring report found.

The premiums of the six medical indemnity insurers monitored were found to be actuarially and commercially justified.
