Result of GP diabetes program hailed.

AUSTRALIAN research has validated a long-running GP-led program for patients with diabetes.

Researchers from the AustralianNationalUniversity and the University of NSW analysed the program, which was initiated in 1995 by the Southern Highlands Division of General Practice in NSW to identify at-risk diabetes patients and provide early intervention.

The division's CEO, Dr Warwick Ruscoe, said as part of the program, which is co-ordinated by a diabetes educator, GPs register patients with type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes on a division database.
