VARICELLAimmunisation is a safe and effective public health strategy, according to the latest Adverse Drug Reactions Advisory Committee bulletin.
The committee's April bulletin said most adverse reactions after varicella vaccination were mild and transient.
Up to 2006 about 1.3 million doses of the vaccine had been administered in Australia since it was marketed in 2000.
In that time ADRAC had received 342 reports of adverse events after immunisation -- most commonly rash, injection site reactions and pyrexia.
