AUSTRALIA'S solarium industry has grown fourfold in the past 10 years, research shows, sparking calls for Federal Government regulation to ensure safety standards are met.

Writing in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health (April), Cancer Council Victoria researchers found 406 solariums were listed in Yellow Pages listings for Australian capital cities in 2006 compared with 97 solariums in 1996.
