VACCINES PART OF SIDS PREVENTION PLAN

IMMUNISATIONS are associated with a halving of the risk of SIDS, according to a meta-analysis.

Immunisation should be part of SIDS prevention campaigns and parents should be reassured that vaccination does not cause SIDS, investigators said.

"There are biological reasons why this association may be causal, but other factors, such as the healthy vaccinee effect, may be important," they said, adding that vaccination might enhance immune activity or reduce infection from other viruses and bacteria.
