The cliche that doctors care for everybody's health but their own has been confirmed by two new international surveys.

Self-prescribing was also common among UK GPs, according to a Pulse magazine poll of 1000 GPs. About 43% of GPs admitted self-prescribing medication --particularly antibiotics and painkillers -- in the past year, despite General Medical Council rules banning the practice.
