Doctors vital in new health fund role.

NEW products developed by private health insurers under the Federal Government's shake-up of the industry should face an industry approval panel that includes medical representation, according to the AMA.

The legislation, which makes it easier for health funds to provide primary care services in areas such as chronic disease management and preventive health, is currently before the Senate and is expected to come into effect on 1 April.
