AGPN FOR SMARTCARD

THE Australian General Practice Network has come out in support of the Federal Government's controversial Smartcard legislation.

The AGPN (formerly the ADGP) said it was satisfied its privacy concerns had been addressed and wanted to work with the government to cut red tape and ensure patient verification was not a burden on general practice.

Earlier this month AMA president Dr Mukesh Haikerwal urged MPs to vote against the Smartcard, saying it provided 'inadequate protection against the misuse of personal information'.
