ONE thing that is certain in superannuation is change, but recent changes have been for the better.

In 2005 the government allowed superannuation to be split with spouses, which provided enormous benefits for couples.

It meant couples could have twice as much money in super without incurring excess-benefits tax because it gave them access to two reasonable benefit limits (RBLs) and it doubled the amount that could be withdrawn tax-free at age 55 and beyond.
