I'VE seen a spate of unplanned pregnancies lately - no doubt because my patients heard about the new item number for pregnancy counselling and were keen to try it out.

Alas, I have refused to take up the offer of further training. The provision of an update for GPs to provide non-directive pregnancy counselling implies that we have engaged in nothing but biased counselling up until now. What an insult to GPs, reflected in the delightfully slow uptake of this 'initiative'.
