THE plight of non-VR GPs is back on the agenda as the AMA calls for yet another round of grandfathering, a move which would boost patient rebates for more than 1000 non-VR doctors.

Patients of non-VR GPs now receive standard consultation rebates worth 68% less than those received by patients whose GPs are on the vocational register.

Last week AMA president Dr Mukesh Haikerwal called on the Federal Government to put on the register all non-VR GPs who were accessing Medicare before November 1996 and have gained five years' experience since then.
