The days of the medical expert for hire may be coming to an end. By John Kron.

FAST, cheap and fairer litigation are the aims of proposed changes to the rules governing expert witnesses in legal cases, including medical negligence.

The changes could also bring an end to the use of 'hired guns'- medical witnesses hired on behalf of one party to give evidence to support their case. There have been cases where experts have concealed evidence that would disadvantage their side.
