Tretinoin success in diabetic ulcers.

TOPICAL tretinoin is showing promise as a treatment for diabetic foot ulcers, after a pilot study found it significantly improved the rate of healing.

Twenty-two patients with diabetic foot ulcers were treated for four weeks with daily topical 0.05% tretinoin or placebo saline solution, according to a paper in the Archives of Dermatology (November).

Researchers found tretinoin (marketed in Australia as Retin-A, ReTrieve Cream and Stieva-A) decreased ulcer area and depth compared with placebo and increased the proportion of ulcers that healed completely ...
