MJA GPs with a high case load of patients from marginalised communities, particularly gay men and women with HIV/AIDS, suffer financially because of the structure of the MBS, research shows.

GPs at a co-located primary care service in Adelaide that specialises in HIV and gay and lesbian health - known as the Care and Prevention Programme - accept a lower personal income to keep the service in operation, a study by the University of Adelaide's department of general practice found.
