LANCET Children whose mothers are vitamin D deficient during pregnancy experience reduced bone-mineral accrual during childhood, placing them at possible risk of future osteoporotic fracture, researchers say.

Lower maternal vitamin D levels during pregnancy were associated with reduced bone-mineral content in offspring at the age of nine, according to the longitudinal study of 198 children published in the Lancet (7 January).
