IMPLANON REDESIGN

IMPLANON'S design has been altered to help doctors check the contraceptive implant has been correctly inserted.

The new design includes a groove around the tip of the obturator, which pushes the insert out of the cannula, to clearly distinguish the tip of the obturator from the tip of the implanted rod. Being unable to see the groove at the tip of the obturator after inserting the rod means the rod is still inside the cannula, according to Organon medical director Dr David Woodhouse.
