A VICTORIAN GP who claimed more than $625,000 in Medicare benefits in a 12-month burst of activity has finally capitulated in his nine-year legal battle to escape punishment for over-servicing.

Dr Peter Tisdall's Medicare claims were so high that he would have needed to spend 23.3 hours in direct patient contact each surgery working day to provide quality care to his patients, according to the Professional Services Review, which was first alerted to the doctor's activities in 1997.

It emerged that in total Dr Tisdall claimed for 27,686 services in 1996. ...
