MJA Measuring serum insulin concentrations and insulin resistance should be abandoned in favour of proven techniques for detecting patients at risk of heart disease, leading diabetes experts argue.

Nine endocrinologists and diabetes experts from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth said insulin resistance had been clinically overtaken by central obesity, now accepted as the core component of metabolic syndrome.
