CHOLESTEROL AGE ALERT

HIGH cholesterol is common in women in their 30s and 40s, according to new research.

Preliminary results from a Melbourne study of 187 women showed 35% of women aged 35-54 and 10% of women aged 25-35 had cholesterol levels above 5.5mmol/L.

A spokeswoman for the researchers, from the Jean Hailes Foundation, said: "We should be aware of the need to monitor younger women for health conditions traditionally attributed to older people."
