A COMBINED maintenance and reliever regimen in a single inhaler can provide greater protection against severe asthma exacerbations than fixed-dose therapy plus a reliever and uses lower total medication doses, research suggests.
The AstraZeneca-sponsored trial, presented at the European Respiratory Society Congress in Munich, is the latest in a series that have increased support for a move towards single inhaler therapy (CyMore evidence for a single puffer in asthma, Australian Doctor, 1 September).
