THERE is a new push for GPs to be given access to league tables of specialists' clinical performance, naming the best and worst performers, so they can make informed choices on where to refer their patients.

Under the banner "knowledge is power", the call was made by the former CEO of the Australian Health Insurance Association, Mr Russell Schneider, as part of his vision to cure what he claims is the "sickness" in the Medicare system.
