MANY young offenders are affected by serious health conditions, including mental illness and sexually transmitted infections, a survey finds.
Among community-based young people in the NSW juvenile justice system, 40% had severe psychological or psychiatric symptoms and one-quarter had a substance abuse disorder, according to a report prepared by the NSW Department of Juvenile Justice, the University of Sydney and NSW Health Justice Division.
