MEDICARE SAFETY NET WELL USED

ABOUT 1.5 million Australians have qualified for the Medicare safety net this year.

Federal Health Minister Mr Tony Abbott last week told Parliament 1.5 million people reached the thresholds of $716 or $307 in out-of-pocket costs.

Under the safety net, singles and families get 80% of their non-hospital out-of-pocket health expenses back once they reach the threshold.
