DOGS NOT ALWAYS OUR BEST FRIENDS
New Zealand dermatologists have identified another peril posed by man's best friend. A woman presented with her third episode of acute facial oedema, each occurring one or two days after visiting her mother's house. Patch testing revealed sensitivity to miconazole, and the source was traced to an antifungal shampoo used weekly on her mother's dog (Australasian Journal of Dermatology 2007; 48:62-63). The condition resolved rapidly each time, and no further incidents were reported once the shampoo was stopped.
