WHEN Melbourne GP Dr Windsor Choi read about Mr Surendra Khutri on a Nepalese news web site, he knew he had to do something to help.

Twenty-year-old Mr Khutri, a farmer from Nepal, lost both hands when he opened a package containing a bomb believed to have been discarded by Maoists guerillas.

His trip to the hospital in the Nepalese town of Pokhara took more than four hours, by stretcher, bus and ambulance, and with only towels to stop the bleeding.
