Mifepristone may have role in fibroid treatment.

THE controversial abortion pill mifepristone effectively relieves fibroid-induced menorrhagia and could play a future role in managing the condition, a small study suggests.

The low-dose mifepristone trial was undertaken to address the "remarkable" lack of evidence for effective medical treatments of symptomatic uterine leiomyomata.

Researchers randomised 42 women to 26 weeks of treatment with either 5mg of mifepristone daily or placebo.
