LANCET Any antihypertensive drug will do when it comes to improving diastolic function and avoiding heart failure, a multicentre trial reports.
The US and Canadian researchers aimed to determine whether angiotensin-receptor blockers had a greater effect on diastolic dysfunction - thought to be an intermediary stage between hypertension and heart failure - than other antihypertensives.
'Lowering blood pressure improves diastolic function irrespective of the type of antihypertensive agent used,' the researchers concluded.
