Accidental gardening.

Serendipity is alive and well in the garden.

THE most marvellous thing about gardening is the way we can turn a difficult part of a garden into a triumph - with a little experimentation. Most astonishing of all is how accidental planting blunders can often turn out to be successful.

In the early 1980s we bought an old house and 3ha of grassy land in Tasmania's Tamar Valley. I immediately started landscaping an area around the home, leaving a large field as a source of hay for mulching purposes.
