GPs rush to respond to NT emergency.

MORE than 1000 doctors have put up their hands to provide Indigenous child health checks as part of the Federal Government's emergency response in the NT, according to taskforce medical adviser Dr Bill Glasson.

About 600-800 of the total have come in response to the AMA's call for doctors, which president Dr Rosanna Capolingua said was 'fantastic'.

Despite media reports that the health check would be linked to a welfare incentive, Federal Health Minister Mr Tony Abbott said last week he did not believe financial incentives would be necessary.
