Study reveals AF often missed on ECG.

BMJ Many primary care professionals struggle to interpret the signs of atrial fibrillation on an ECG, a study has found.

GPs missed 20% of cases of AF on a 12-lead ECG, and misinterpreted 8% of cases of sinus rhythm as AF, according to a UK study published in the BMJ (online).

Additional use of interpretative software increased the accuracy of diagnosis but the study authors suggested this was not enough and called for reading of ECGs 'by appropriately trained people'.
