"In an ideal situation, each of our 19 'spider' stands would have three rolls of newsprint loaded, ready for printing operations. However, the diversity of printing jobs and the various types of paper we use presents a material handling challenge. Obviously, the critical goal is to have a roll of newsprint ready when the press needs it, so that printing operations are continuous. We rely on AGVs (automated guided vehicles) and a sophisticated control system to perform this function."
